Focus on Family Medicine

The Focus on Family Medicine Taskforce brings together national health organizations and key independent voices to design and advance coordinated action that strengthens recruitment, retention, and capacity of Canada’s family-physician workforce.

Co-led by the College of Family Physicians of Canada with support from the Canadian Medical Association, the Taskforce focuses on five priority areas:

  1. Promoting the value of family medicine in practice and education
  2. Reducing administrative burden for family physicians
  3. Supporting sustainable medical-school expansion
  4. Advancing team-based primary care with a well-defined family physician role

The Taskforce develops joint position statements and advocacy briefs, convenes events, and offers guidance and knowledge products.

Its work is guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the Quintuple Aim.

It prioritizes focused, feasible action that builds on existing work and supports a sustainable and thriving family medicine.
